Integrates livelihood support for food provision and nutrition improvement for vulnerable pastoralist HHs.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023 and within the project as part of “The Integrated Livelihood Support in Famine Risk Prone Areas in Yemen- Dhubab District Taiz” funded by United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund in cooperation with United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), BCFHD launched the activity of distributing female goats to vulnerable pastoralist families in the Dhubab district of Taiz Governorate.

It’s worth mentioning that the activity targets 1,500 families, providing them with a total of 6,000 female goats, 4 goats each HHs. This activity is part of the integrated set of livelihood support initiatives, including the distribution of animal feed and cash assistance, as well as providing awareness  training for families about nutrition and modern and effective animal husbandry practices.

Dr. Faisal Al-Sabri, the Livelihood Projects Coordinator at BCFHD, emphasized that the project aims to support the livelihoods of vulnerable pastoralist families with small holdings, in order to enhance their access to food and improve nutrition for approximately 10,500 individuals in the Dhubab district, which is classified as one of the most famine-prone districts.

He also highlighted the implementation of various measures to ensure the safety of the goats before distribution, including a 14-day veterinary quarantine period, as well as providing veterinary care and proper nutrition. Additionally, strict protocols for transportation and secure distribution of goats are being followed under the supervision of specialized veterinarians from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.

The activity implementation was attended by CCs, social leaders and representatives of local council in the district.
